Investment casting refers to the meltable model made of fusible materials, on which several layers of refractory coating are coated, dried and hardened to form an integral shell, and then steam or hot water is used to melt the model from the shell. Then the shell is placed in a sand box, and dry sand is filled around it. The casting mold is put into a baking furnace and roasted at high temperature. After the casting mold or shell is roasted, molten metal is poured therein to obtain a casting.
The products obtained by investment casting are precise and complex, close to the shape of the parts, and can be used directly without processing or with little processing. It is an advanced process of near-net forming shape and an excellent process technology in the casting industry. Its application is very extensive. It is not only suitable for casting of various types and alloys, but also produces castings with high dimensional accuracy and surface quality than other casting methods. Even castings that are difficult to be cast by other casting methods are complex, high temperature resistant and not easy to process can be cast by investment precision casting.
At present, the world's investment precision casting forming process is developing rapidly and widely used. From the current situation, the future development trend of the process is that the casting products are getting closer and closer to the parts products. The traditional precision casting is only used as a blank, which is no longer suitable for the rapid strain of the market. The complexity and quality of parts and components are getting higher and higher, the means of research and development are getting stronger and stronger, professional collaboration is beginning to appear, and the application of CAD, CAM and CAE has become the main technology for parts and components product development.
